Vueron Technology Unveils Sensor Fusion Perception Technology for Truck Platooning

Detection of Lead Vehicle’s Position and Speed to Support Safe Driving

 

Startup Vueron Technology announced on the 27th that it had successfully demonstrated its truck platooning technology as part of a cooperative autonomous driving project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

Previously, Vueron developed sensor fusion technology that integrates data from cameras and radar systems installed on trucks. During the demonstration, the company showcased its perception technology, which detects the position and speed of the leading vehicle and identifies any vehicles attempting to cut into the convoy.

Truck platooning refers to a group of large trucks moving together in a convoy using cooperative autonomous driving technology. The lead vehicle controls the driving, while the following trucks communicate with each other through a platform, allowing them to operate autonomously.

The company explained that platooning reduces air resistance, improving fuel efficiency and reducing driver fatigue, which ultimately lowers the risk of accidents.

The trailing trucks in the platoon operate at Level 3 autonomous driving. Autonomous driving systems are classified from Level 0 to Level 5, depending on the level of driver intervention. Level 3 represents conditional automation, where control alternates between the driver and the autonomous driving system (ADS) under certain conditions.

Vueron Technology specializes in LiDAR perception and sensor fusion technology for autonomous driving. The company is working in collaboration with several organizations, including Hyundai Motor Company, Kakao Mobility, and Kookmin University, under the leadership of Korea Expressway Corporation, to advance the commercialization of autonomous driving technology.
