NAVER-backed startup Vueron applies cold chain to autonomous driving technology
Vueron Technology, a leader in LiDAR-based autonomous driving solutions, is partnering with Team Fresh, a leading cold chain logistics company, to launch a pilot project for eco-friendly deliveries using autonomous electric trucks. This marks the first time in South Korea’s cold chain industry that autonomous trucks will be used to deliver fresh produce.
Vueron, known for its successful autonomous driving tests in both the U.S. and South Korea using just one LiDAR sensor, has been actively expanding its business globally. After securing seed funding from Naver D2SF in its early days, the company successfully raised 10 billion KRW in a pre-A funding round in January.
Team Fresh dominates over 90% of the cold chain dawn delivery market in the Seoul metropolitan area, making it the top player in the industry.
The two companies plan to leverage Vueron’s LiDAR-based autonomous driving solution in electric trucks to facilitate Team Fresh’s fresh food deliveries in an eco-friendly manner. Team Fresh will provide logistics management systems and data on food transportation volume, which Vueron will use to safely transport fresh food from Team Fresh’s logistics centers to local stores using their autonomous electric trucks. This project will also be enhanced by utilizing Naver Labs’ high-definition maps (HD MAP).
Vueron’s development of autonomous driving solutions for electric trucks is already in its final stages, and the pilot program is expected to launch in January next year, with a focus on the Pangyo area using Team Fresh’s logistics management system.
Jaekwang Kim, CEO of Vueron Technology, stated, “With our technology that enables autonomous driving using just one LiDAR sensor, we aim to solve the challenges faced by many logistics providers and revolutionize the logistics industry.”
Sungil Lee, CEO of Team Fresh, added, “If we can ensure both efficiency and safety by integrating autonomous driving technology into our fresh food dawn delivery service, it would be an unparalleled innovation in the logistics industry.”
