“LiDAR-Based Traffic Control System to Enter Global Markets”
Vueron Technology, a leading LiDAR solution provider, announced on the 13th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Spanish infrastructure company Salvi during the 2023 Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC 2023), held in Barcelona from November 7th to 9th.
The SCEWC, which has been held annually in Barcelona since 2011, is the world’s largest smart city exhibition. Each year, the event focuses on urban environments, shared cities, and more, attracting participation from innovative companies and governments around the globe. Vueron was selected as an exhibitor in the Seoul Pavilion, organized by the Seoul Digital Foundation (SDF), which marked Korea’s largest-ever presence at the event.
Salvi, a specialized smart infrastructure company with over 120 years of history, manages integrated smart city control platforms across regions including Spain, Africa, and the Middle East. Their expertise lies in smart lighting control, which serves as the foundation for their smart city initiatives.
Through this MOU, Vueron and Salvi aim to apply LiDAR solutions to regions with insufficient infrastructure to solve traffic congestion and provide pedestrian-centered safety services. Vueron will supply its LiDAR perception software, while Salvi will manage and monitor the entire system through its proprietary Smartec platform.
Vueron has recently gained recognition for its technological excellence by winning awards at major exhibitions. Its Smart Crowd Analytics (SCA) system, which has been sequentially implemented in Seoul’s Jongno district, demonstrates the company’s strengths in smart city and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) applications. Building on these successes, Vueron is actively expanding its business overseas through strategic partnerships.
As a next-generation innovative startup founded in 2019, Vueron offers highly differentiated LiDAR solutions with superior perception capabilities. The company has raised over 10 billion KRW in cumulative investment from Naver, BonAngels, and KDB Bank. Vueron’s AI-based autonomous driving LiDAR perception solution, VueOne, and its smart infrastructure solution, VueTwo, are at the core of its offerings.
Vueron made global headlines in 2020 when it became the first company in the world to obtain an autonomous driving license using only one LiDAR sensor. The company successfully completed a 100% driverless journey from Seoul to Busan. In 2022, Vueron was recognized again after obtaining autonomous driving licenses using a single LiDAR sensor in California and Nevada.
Jaekwang Kim, CEO of Vueron, stated, “This MOU with a leading European company opens the door for global expansion of our ITS and smart city solutions. We will continue to enhance our LiDAR technology to make the world safer and smarter.”
